HACKENSACK, NJ - Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of ELKANA GONZALEZ (DOB:06/21/1998; single; construction worker) of 9 Clinton Avenue, Clifton, New Jersey on charges of sexual assault and child endangerment. The arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Jason Love, and the Fair Lawn Police Department under the direction of Chief Glen Cauwels.
On May 28, 2021, the Fair Lawn Police Department received information that ELKANA GONZALEZ engaged in sexual conduct with a juvenile who is under the age of thirteen while in Fair Lawn, New Jersey. The Fair Lawn Police contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit and the Department of Child Protection and Permanency, and an investigation was initiated. During that investigation, it was learned that GONZALEZ engaged in sexual conduct including sexual penetration with the child over an extended period of time while in Fair Lawn, New Jersey.
As a result of the investigation, on Thursday, July 15, 2021, ELKANA GONZALEZ was charged with one count of first-degree aggravated sexual assault, N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2a(1); and one count of third-degree endangering the welfare of a child, N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4a(1). He was served with the complaint while at the Passaic County Jail where he was being held. His first appearance at the Bergen County Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack, New Jersey is pending.
Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely accusations and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt and would like to thank the Fair Lawn Police Department for their assistance in this investigation.
