NEWARK, NJ - A 3-alarm fire damaged a large 4-story residential and commercial building at 786 Clinton Avenue, The blaze destroyed part of the 4th floor and the roof. The floors below were also damaged by water. A firefighter was injured when part of the building collapsed while battling the fire, he was transported to the hospital by EMS and is reported to be doing OK.
Several people were left displaced.
Fire companies from several sounding towns were called in to cover empty fire stations in the city.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
