LINDEN, NJ - At approximately 3:00 p.m. Linden Police & Fire units responded to the 400 block of Lafayette St on reports of a fire.
Responders were met by heavy smoke condition. Firefighters made entry to the building and located a fire in the basement. The two-alarm blaze was quickly extinguished.
One individual was located inside the residence. He was pronounced deceased on scene.
Union County Fire Mutual Aid was activated, and Firefighters from Rahway, Roselle, Elizabeth responded to assist.
The incident remains under investigation by the Union County Arson Investigation Team, the Union County Homicide Task Force, and the Linden Police Detective Bureau.
