PATERSON MAN ARRESTED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT AND ENDANGERING WELFARE OF A CHILD

Paterson NJ - Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes announces the arrest of Samuel Garrison, 71 years

old, from Paterson, New Jersey. Mr. Garrison was arrested on August 12, 2021 after an investigation conducted by the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit. Mr. Garrison is charged

with one count of second degree Sexual Assault, two counts of second degree Endangering the

Welfare of a Child, and one count of third degree Aggravated Criminal Sexual Contact.

On July 15, 2021, the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office received a report of two children, a 10-

year-old and a 16-year-old, who disclosed being sexually assaulted by Mr. Garrison. The children

disclosed being assaulted by Mr. Garrison at a residence in Paterson. During the investigation,

Prosecutor’s Office detectives interviewed both victims and multiple witnesses resulting in Mr.

Garrison’s arrest.

The sentencing exposure on second degree Sexual Assault it is five to ten years in New Jersey

State Prison with 85% of the sentence to be served before parole eligibility pursuant to the No Early

Release Act; on second degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child it is five to ten years in New

Jersey State Prison; and on third degree Aggravated Criminal Sexual Contact it is three to five years

in New Jersey State Prison. If convicted, Mr. Garrison will be subject to Parole Supervision for Life

and Megan’s Law registration requirements.

The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office filed a motion for pretrial detention and is asking that Mr.

Garrison be detained in the Passaic County Jail pending the resolution of the case. The detention

motion will be scheduled before a Superior Court Judge next week.

A criminal complaint is merely an accusation. Despite the accusation, the defendant is presumed

innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
